HIV/AIDS Facts

The L&PG, Inc.'s outreach programs raise awareness about the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among African American women. Black women account for 71.8 percent of new HIV cases among women. In government studies of 29 states, black women accounted
for 71.8 percent of new H.I.V. cases in women from 1999 to
2002.

-By age 20, the HIV infection rate for African American women in a study was 7 per 1,000. The HIV prevalence among young African Americans women was 7 times higher than for young White women, and 8 times higher than for young Hispanic women.

-More women are becoming infected by men who keep their HIV/AIDS status a secret.
