The L&PG 2006 Champagne Reception

In 2006, the Law and Policy Group, Inc. honored Derrick Bell, activist, civil rights attorney, writer, and law professor, with the James Baldwin Award. The Restitution Study Group was honored with the Harriet Tubman Award.  

Derrick Bell : Black Authors : Black Writers : African American AuthorsDerrick Bell is a rare combination of activist, scholar, and creative thinker. In 1990, Derrick Bell, then a professor at Harvard University, was dismissed while protesting the absence of women of color at Harvard's Law School. Bell discusses his decision to protest in  Confronting Authority: Reflections of an Ardent Protestor.

Bell's other books include: And We Are Not Saved: The Elusive Quest for Racial Justice; Faces at the Bottom of the Well: The Permanence of Racism, Gospel Choirs: Psalms of Survival in an Alien Land Called Home, Silent Covenants: Brown v. Board of Education and the Unfulfilled Hopes for Racial Reform, and Race, Racism and American Law.
